There are a lot of buzzwords flying around HE, and probably none hotter than 'Flipped Classroom' or 'Blended Learning'. The blended learning concept is about creating scenarios where the teacher and the student engage with the material together, where the homework is the preparation for a classroom where conversations, experiments, and other forms of engagement occur. Sometimes the technology used in this environment is minimal (posting readings online), sometimes it is central to the tasks.
However, even 'superstar' teachers who use technology, blended learning and other avenues for creating student engagement run into roadblocks and new challenges. The following story from the Chronicle of Higher Education provides some insights into one teaching superstar's journey towards providing a better learning environment, to figure out what makes his students tick.
